About LA NHS Neighborhood Pride Days
LA NHS holds Neighborhood Pride Days twice a year, where hundreds of volunteers join forces with local residents to help beautify a neighborhood block. Armed with paint brushes, shovels, brooms, and determination, the participants paint homes, provide alley and yard clean up, graffiti removal, and tree and flower planting. The results are transformed neighborhoods, on more than one level.

This year, LA NHS painted and repaired 32 homes in our three target neighborhoods (Crenshaw, San Pedro/Wilmington, and Pacoima). With the help of more than 800 volunteers from local corporations, banks, insurance companies, non-profits, government officials, and local volunteer groups, residents and seniors who could not afford to paint and maintain their homes were given a helping hand. At the end of the day, the homes and neighborhoods emerged more refreshed.

Neighborhood Pride Day is a block party for the community where we wish to inspire additional families in the area to continue the work of improving their communities, taking pride in their homes and making neighborhoods of choice. Volunteers are treated to breakfast and lunch, as well as musical entertainment throughout the day. Photos from last year's Pride Days can be found here.

This year LA NHS is teaming up with NeighborWorks© America and CRA/LA to host the first Canoga Park Neighborhood Pride Day. Roll up your sleeve and grab a brush or shovel as we work to brighten up houses with a fresh coat of paint and lend a hand to clean out debris and overgrown brush from the streets and alleys.

LA NHS will host a block party for homeowners providing free informational sessions in conjunction with our partners, providing homeowners with one on one counseling and advisory services. So for those with questions about their mortgage or insurance coverage, bring your documents for a free consultation. For more information about Neighborhood Pride Day, sponsorship information, to volunteer, or find out how you can be involved, contact Nina Kihlman at (213) 381-2862 ext. 111 or email here at nkihlman@lanhs.org.

Homes are chosen on the same street or block to create a dynamic and visible difference
in the area. Often after renovating and painting these homes, other homeowners on the
street feel inspired to beautify their homes and yards. Businesses prosper in strong,
well-managed communities. Improving the areas where customers and employees live is
good for business. You can join with residents, business leaders and volunteers to help
invigorate Los Angeles neighborhoods by contributing to this neighborhood effort.
